Let’s Get Raw & Real about Addiction, Codependency & Recovery

Dear Sisters,
I want to check in again and offer you a tool you can begin to use as a catalyst for change. As you’ve probably heard me say by now, it’s time to get up off of the sidelines of your life and become aware, accountable, and committed to change. Yes, it takes work. It takes stick-to-it-iveness. And it takes time!

Whether you choose to change or not, time is still passing you by, and I can guarantee that it will pass you by, no matter what you choose or don’t choose.

The question to ask yourself is where do you want to be one year from now and where to begin when the struggle seems so big or so familiar. My answer is the same way you eat an elephant, one bite or one step at a time.

You see, baby steps over time produce great change!

So, make a choice right now to begin right where we are and head in the direction of change.

What have you got to lose?

10 Essential Questions, adopted from Debby Ford

Use this entire list, a few questions, or only one as a daily check-in with yourself about your choices, excuses, resistance to change, inventory, etc.

Next, do something different, big or small, without judgment or criticism. It’s about waking up, becoming aware, and moving forward. If it doesn’t work out so well, regroup and try again. No big deal!

The choice is yours to make, no one can do the work for you, and you can’t do the work for anyone else.

Your work. Your healing. Your responsibility.

You get to create your life in any way you choose. Isn’t that the beauty and the miracle in all of it?

  1. Will this choice propel me toward my future, or will it keep me stuck in the past
  2. Will this choice bring me long-term fulfillment, or will it bring me short-term gratification?
  3. Am I standing in my power, or am I trying to please, control, or change another?
  4. Will this choice add to my life force, or will this choice rob me of my energy?
  5. Will I use this situation as a catalyst to grow and evolve, or will I use it to beat myself up and stay stuck in old patterns, beliefs, and behaviors?
  6. Does this choice empower me, or does it disempower me?
  7. Does this choice feel heavy or light? Is it a “hell yes” or a “hell no?”
  8. Is this choice an act of self-love, or is it an act of self-sabotage?
  9. Is this an act of faith, or is it an act of fear (false-evidence-appearing-real)?
  10. Am I choosing from my highest self, or am I choosing from my most familiar self?

Don’t stop before the miracle happens, and that miracle happens inside of you.

Remember you are not alone, and we’re in this together.

Much, much love,
Mikki

P.S. Join me for my free, live 4-week series, Preparing for Your Journey through Codependency to Freedom. It begins August 16th! Learn more below.

Together we’re going to get real and talk about what it’s like and what it means to love an addict by breaking the silence and shining a light on the hidden places of secrets, shame, and sorrow, moving out of feeling trapped and alone into a place of freedom.

About Mikki Proffitt
My mission in life is to create a space where women like you can share your stories from a place of truth, vulnerability, and safety. Where you can be raw and real, without masks or pretense. You can come as you are, feel seen, heard, held, and witnessed without judgment, and be surrounded by love. As a woman whose own healing journey through childhood trauma, abuse, and addiction I have spent over three decades in a career of service to others as an addictions counselor, trauma-informed breathwork, grief movement, and EFT Practioner. My deepest desire is that my work helps women end their suffering as they remember who they are, reclaim their power, and reignite their purpose.
